Immigrants from Greece, Demetrios and Helen along with son Gus and Helen’s sister Paula, moved to Bradenton in 1976 in search of a better life. With recipes from the old country and help from family, “Demetrios’ Pizza House” was formed.
Working diligently, they quickly attracted customers from all over the area, who came for the great food, outstanding service and low prices. 1982 was the landmark year when the group realized a dream and became American citizens. As Bradenton grew, so did the family business.
In 1987, a small waiting area addition was completed. The family worked harder than ever, and the business continued to grow.
“Community involvement is a priority for us” says Gus. “We live here. We work here, and we contribute to our town.” By 1993, the family felt it was important that the appearance of the restaurant be upgraded to keep up with the changing times. Demetrios’ Pizza remained involved in the community, and the business continued to thrive.
In the summer of 2000, it was time to make major changes, and the family enlarged the restaurant, thoroughly remodeling the popular eatery.
After more than 30 years in business, building a loyal customer following and being active in the community, Demetrios’ Pizza realized the American Dream of success and recognition by being named “2007 Small Business of the Year” by the Manatee Chamber of Commerce.
Demetrios’ has also won recognition from its customers and the readers of the Bradenton Herald, who have voted it “Best Pizza Place” 17 years in a row.
